Long Island Mom

What I've learned about being a mom.

About Me

20120607-215111.jpg

My name is Christina Arata, and I’m in love with 3 things; my husband Dave, my kids, and food. I grew up in southern California and moved to NY in 2001 to attend New York University, met the aforementioned hubby, and wound up on Long Island.

We married in 2009 and got right down to making kids. Sofia was born in December 2010 and baby David was born September of this year, a full month before his due date of October. Before the kids, I was a high school French teacher, but left my profession to be a full-time mommy. Nothing has been more fulfilling or more of a challenge. A big part of this blog is devoted to my ideas and questions about parenting. I don’t have the answers, I only have what I’ve learned from the plethora of mistakes I have made.

I have always loved food, probably more than one should openly admit. Dave has tried to convince me to share my recipes since the first meal I made him and strong armed me into this blog. I’m hoping that my embarrassingly easy meals are interesting enough to grab your attention and I welcome your feedback!

    Hi Christina,

I noticed on your blog that your daughter really enjoys playing and learning on the iPad. I wanted to share with you a bit about Storypanda, an ipad app that allows kids and parents to create stories together. Storypanda is more than just a reading app, it is a full interactive experience. In our sixth title, Yawn Chairs, kids and parents work together to help the super hero chairs complete their missions. This story is special to us here at Storypanda because the yawn chairs lend a helping hand to the families they live with promoting teamwork and helping others.

If you would like to find out more, I’ve included a blog post about Yawn Chairs (http://storypanda.com/the-yawn-chairs-are-now-here-to-save-the-day-on-storypanda-ipad-books/) and a few news articles about Storypanda. Here is a direct download to our app: http://www.get.storypanda.com

Please contact me if you would like to learn more about how Storypanda connects families through storytelling.

    Hi, Christina–

I’m writing a story for NEWSDAY on beauty sample sites and love your blog post about how you discovered Birchbox. Would like to do a quick interview w/ you about your experience sometime soon. I was hoping to hand the story in Wednesday but just saw your post and want to try to include you somehow–so if it’s possible to chat Tuesday, 3/12…?? (Give me a quick shout-out and let me know a day / time that might work this week.)

    Thanks!!

    –JOE
